SPN Ficcage Question @ 09:46 pm

What I really want to know is if anyone has written a genderfuck Supernatural with an always-gay Dean being inexplicably attracted to a Castiel who started out in a female vessel? If not, I think I want to write that.

Title: Cantando More (The Ode to Sheppard’s Cock Remix)
Author: [info - personal] elementalv
Summary: Katak will prove himself worthy of Colonel’s affections.
Rating: NC-17
Fandom: Stargate: Atlantis
Pairing: Katak/Colonel
Warnings: Explicit sexual imagery, slash
Original Story: Think Of Atlantis is a pretty little tale of want by [info] kassrachel, and it’s been one of my favorite fics for a goodly while now. If you like your porn porny, this probably isn't the story for you. Likewise, if you like your romance romantic, this probably won't cut it. In short, Kass, I apologize for what I did to your OC. Really.

And a reminder: two, count them, two of my stories were remixed this year:

Ben of the Tundra was remixed into Ben of the Tundra (the If Beowulf Were Raised by Wolves Remix) by [info - personal] kinetikatrue.

And Second Story was remixed into Double Vision (The Fight or Flight Remix) by [info - personal] nestra.

Both remixes are excellent and deserve a look and a comment.

Words cannot express my full love for this remix of Buffy and Twilight. We're talking serious, full-on glomping kind of love.

Squooshy! @ 06:28 pm

[is a sheeple]

For those of you who read my fic, thank you. Seriously. I don't care if you lurk and never say a word, though I'm always happy when you do, because comments of any sort are always love. But really, lurking is good, too, and as a life-long introvert, I fully understand why you do so. Please don't ever feel badly if you don't comment because you don't know what to say or don't feel you have anything to say in response to a fic; I've been there, too, and I know what it's like to stare at the screen and go, "Damn it."

Anyway. Thank you again for reading and being interested in what I have to say.

Love, Me.

Fic, fic, who's got the fic? @ 03:20 pm

Current Music: Silence is Golden

Yay! It's reveal day for all the various ficathons. For thems what's interested, my fics can be found here:

due South Sekrit Santa: Outcast, written for [info]sageness. It's a gen fic AU with Ray and Ray, though it can definitely be read as pre-slash. I'd like to write more in this 'verse, and I will. Just as soon as the story stops being so damn shy.

[info]sga_santa: The Phantom of the Laboratory, written for [info]hyperfocused. In keeping with the cracktastic vein my brain has been running with lately, this is a fusion with, yes, Phantom of the Opera. And yes, I used Andrew Lloyd Webber's version to structure the story I wrote. Pairings are Sheppard/Mitchell and Sheppard/McKay.

Yuletide: No Hero, written for [info]kleenexwoman. The fandom is Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged, and it's post-canon gen fic, with Hank Rearden as the main character.

[twirls my secret authors]

So for dSSS, my wonderful, WONDERFUL secret Santa wrote me Ray/Ray with a plot and first-time goodness, oh my! It has the feel of due South, and (so. much. love.) it references points in canon. If you haven't read Sleeping is Believing yet, and Ray/Ray doesn't give you hives, go! Shoo, shoo! Read it and revel in its slashy, plotty magnificence.

My Yuletide author dove into Canadian RPF with a Callum/Hugh story that weaves in the making of Hard Core Logo and uses The Beatles' Revolver for structure. At least two of you know why the second fact makes me gigglesnort. Regardless of my inane chatter, Revolver makes me spin with glee!!! Serious, serious love for this story.

It's the most wonderful time of the year! @ 05:43 pm

Current Music: Silence is Golden

Made it to the West Coast last night following a descent that could have doubled as a roller coaster ride. Seriously.

Also, because my brain was/is ass, I woke up yesterday morning at 2:18 a.m. (yes, you read that right), and I didn't get to bed until 4 a.m. (Eastern) this morning. Yay! I just love going more than 24 hours without sleep.

Not.

Be that as it may, I'm here, and I've already informed my ex-brother-in-law that I expect him to find me a job. He tried to laugh it off, but I said no. I'm serious. For real. Find me a job.

We'll see how well that works.

And...AND... my [info]sga_santa wrote me the most wonderful story in the world. Go! Squee over Bare Skin. See if you can squee as hard as I did. Bet you can't.

A sign of the apocalypse @ 02:44 pm

Current Music: Silence is Golden
Tags: ,

This may well be a sign of the apocalypse: I'm reccing a het fic. Specifically, I'm reccing a Teyla/John fic in the Mensa AU.

The thing is that I like good writing, which is why I read slash -- that's where most of the good writers tend to play. But OMG, there's joy in Whoville when I find well-written het with layered and nuanced characters.

So, gentle readers, run, don't walk, to read Heteronormativity, Gender Construction and Nonverbal Signaling in Intercultural Communication: A Comedy. I'm only about a third of the way through it, but this is joining my list of top-ten favorite fics in SGA, because the writing is excellent.

Mensa!John is a spaz, Teyla's mysteriousness is scary as hell, and -- yeah. Just -- yeah. Go. Read. Enjoy.

And comment!

SGA Santa - First Half @ 12:12 pm

Tags:

[info]sga_santa started going live on Sunday, and I wanted to share some of my favorites. My recs are all McShep, but note that there are stories with other pairings (including het) as well as gen stories, so even if you don't do slash, check out the community for stories that might be more to your taste.

Stargazing by ??? - If you're at all into classic science fiction (Asimov, Clarke, Heinlein, etc.), this is a must read. It's the best kind of future!fic there is, and in terms of SGA AUs, I've never seen one done better. The author created a hell of a world, and like a lot of other readers, I would love to see more stories set in this particular 'verse.

Like A Coin by ??? - The life and loves of Rodney McKay, starting from age 5. I love the character voices in this, and I adore the Rodney McKay presented by the author.

Forever Home by ??? - John and Rodney are stranded with no real way home. Like the 'verse built for Stargazing, this is a world I would like to see more of. The OCs are interesting without being cloying, and that will always be a happy thing.

Broadcast Signal by ??? - Longish, plotty fic will always be my favorite. This is also Rodney-centric, and he's doing the best he can under really ugly circumstances. There's a bit of angst and hurt without real comfort, but the payoff at the end is well worth the journey.

The Bumblebee Myth by ??? - This is the crackiest crack!fic I've ever seen, and I absolutely love it. Rodney's a mantis, John's a stick insect (like we didn't see that coming), and -- yeah. Crack all the way.

Dear Yuletide Writer(s): @ 09:27 pm

Current Music: Going to a Town - Rufus Wainwright

First and foremost, thank you! Seriously, thank you.

I gave you some ideas in my signup post of what I'd like to see for each of the fandoms, but in case you need more...

Things I adore: snark, banter, characters that feel real, honest emotional connection between characters (platonic or romantic), the zing of discovery (whether the answer to a question or the realization that hey -- this person is right for me!), first kisses, plot with undertones of emotional currents, ambiguous endings (though truthfully, this year I'm desperate for happy endings, thanks to RL asshattery), mentions of family members who've never been seen "on screen," small details that flesh out a character's daily life, references to real life news, looking at a character from an angle that's never been explored in canon.

Things that make my teeth hurt: character bashing, men who sound like angsting teenage girls, secondary characters who give a knowing/mysterious smile in reaction to the primary characters' cluelessness, betrayal, humiliation, non-con.

Things I'm okay with if your story leads you there: death of a major or minor character (though really, I'm desperate for happy endings this year), angst that arises naturally from the decisions the characters make based on who they are, permanent injury, and possibly a few other things.

Three of my fandom requests (Tin Man, Atlas Shrugged and RPF - Canadian Actors) have slash potential which I would love to see, but if you can't go there, I'll happily take gen. The fourth request, The Dresden Files, is most decidedly a gen kind of fandom for me. If you have any questions, please, don't be shy about asking the mods for assistance in getting clarification.

Love, Tara

Eye to the future @ 08:27 am

Current Music: Election Day - Lyle Lovett
Tags: , ,

Twelve years ago today, I quit smoking, and I'm pleased to announce that I've finally lost all the weight I gained when I quit. The weight gain isn't/wasn't fun, but the health benefits of quitting far outweigh the health risks of temporary weight gain (according to my doctor, anyway: he told me when I quit that he'd rather see me fat than smoking). If you still smoke and are telling yourself you'll quit when the timing is better/ your stress is less/whatever, I'll tell you now that there will never be a better time to quit than now. That said, you have to be willing to quit for it to work. If you're not willing now, please, for your own sake, figure out what *will* tip the scales in favor of quitting and work it from that angle.

~*~*~

As long as we're on the issue of quitting, consider this my plea to all of you to give up on fast food restaurants. The crap they serve may taste good, but aside from illegal narcotics, it's the worst possible thing you can put into your body. Don't believe me? Consider this: in January 2007, when I realized I'd screwed the pooch with my finances, the first thing I cut was my food budget. That meant no more Burger King, McDonalds, Arby's, etc., and it meant that I started cooking for myself. In one month's time, I lost roughly 20-25 pounds (based on the way my clothing fit). Not only that, but at the end of that month, friends and family told me point blank I actually looked healthier, and this was when I still weighed more than 330 pounds.

Fast food is a killer, and it's at least as expensive a habit to maintain as smoking a pack a day. If you do nothing else for yourself, please, stop going to fast food restaurants.

~*~*~

Anyway, back to my weight: my next goal is to lose the weight I gained from when I started working for my company, and I think that's another 15 pounds or so, which means I should be there by January at the latest. After that, I want to drop below 200, so maybe March or April? And then I want to get to 180, because I'll be able to say with absolute accuracy that I'm half the woman I used to be. After that? I'm not sure. 180 has been my firm goal all along, though I might decide to go a little further and reach 160. If I do that, my weight loss will be an even 200 pounds (or, god help me, one-tenth of a ton).

FIC: Mathematician, SGA, McKay/Sheppard, R @ 05:15 pm

Tags: , ,

Title: Mathematician
Author: Tara Keezer
Fandom: SGA
Pairing: McKay/Sheppard
Rating: R
Notes: Roughly 4,300 words; academic AU. This is a fusion with “Secretary” by Mary Gaitskill, and it relies more heavily on her short story than on the movie that was made a few years ago.
Warnings: Spanking; mild D/s
Summary: “I was packing up the last of my stuff when Kavanagh came by to tell me the news — my funding for the next six months had fallen through, so instead of moving to a new desk, I had to clear out completely.”

Finally! @ 11:34 am

Current Mood: good
Current Music: rain on metal awnings

For those of you who haven't gone to read the Team Whimsy (yay!) and Team Reality stories at [info]ds_flashfiction, now is the time to head over. All of the stories are posted, and voting (yay, Whimsy!) continues until September 19. There are some seriously excellent offerings from both teams (boo, Reality for having good writers), and if, like me, your day is rain-soaked, this is a good time to dive in.

Also, if anyone can figure out which story is mine, I'll do a ficlet just for you.

~*~*~

We're finally getting a nice soaking of rain (thank you, Gustav!). It started early this morning and has been going ever since, which my lawn adores.

~*~*~

The more I think about Major Teldy on SGA, the more I like her. She's just a bit snarky and is willing to fight for herself. She's also defensive and a little bit convinced that Sheppard is going to be just like every other CO she's ever had, which makes for interesting tension.

And how much do I love the fact that they added three strong female characters to SGA? Sucks that the show was canceled, but these three will definitely add variety to the fic offerings out there. I'm not all that fond of femmeslash, but hell, I'm tempted to give it a try (see above re: strong female characters).

~*~*~

Went to Eastern Market with Emmy this morning and picked up more of the 12-bean mix I like to use for soup (soup!), which will be made this evening. Also picked up some incredibly delicious sweet corn (gorgeous taste, even raw). I'll roast a couple of ears, but the remainder will go into the soup and possibly the casserole I'll be making (though I may use the frozen corn I have on hand for that). Either way, the corn will be used in fairly short order. And I have ground chuck which will be turned into that hamburger stroganoff I like so much.

It's a cooking kind of weekend, folks. Batten down the hatches and let the rain fall where it may.
